I’m not one for wishing summer away. Nope. Never! But like it or not, fall is right around the corner. Now is the time to start planning for those autumn portrait sessions and holiday family portraits! I have only a couple of summer appointments left open and am now taking appointments for fall sessions in September – November. September is more than half booked, so don’t delay! A Lens on Love - Wedding Photography - Week Two Winners

I recently teamed up with my dear friend, and fantastically talented British wedding photographer Sheryl Fish, of Oobaloos Photography, to create a space just for wedding photographers. A Lens on Love is a Facebook Page dedicated to wedding photography. We wanted to create a place for wedding photographers to learn, grow their businesses, support each other, and build relationships. We have some of the elite wedding photographers from around the globe participating in judging the weekly themed competitions and in submitting their work. We are thrilled to see so many talented industry professionals participating and spreading the word!  Sheryl and I have been SO inspired by the amazing talent being shared!

Our amazing week two guest judge, Beth Seliga, of 3 Cats Photo based in the Charlottesville, VA area, is a fine art photographer specializing in senior, family and wedding photography. Beth began her career traveling the world as a professional sports photographer with her work appearing in publications including Sports Illustrated, USA Today and Pro Cycling magazine. After having kids and settling down in Albemarle County, Beth transitioned to portraiture and wedding photography.

Her stunning work has been featured in publications including: NBCNews, Financial Times, USA Today, Sports Illustrated, Wedding Chicks, Beyond the Wanderlust, Cville Weddings, Capitol Romance,  Stand Alone Magazine, NAPCP, Privizzinis Passion, YipYap Girl & Love Photographs Beautifully, the Crozet Gazette, VeloPress, Competitive Cyclist, Cycling Weekly, Pro Cycling, Cycling Magazine USA and UK, The Scout Guide,  The Denver Post & CyclingNews.  We were honored to have her with us this week!! This session was an anniversary surprise for mama! Her husband wanted to set up a family beach session while they were in town visiting for the week. We planned a sunset mini session by the shore in Virginia Beach for their family of four. It was just enough time for these twin cuties to plan in the sand without getting overwhelmed by picture day. I am thrilled that we were able to capture some fun memories for them! And what a gorgeous sunset we enjoyed too!!

On the 4th of July, I had the privilege of photographing a lovely wedding for two beautiful souls who wanted to celebrate the joining of their families. When I met Ana several months ago, she told me their love story and I was in tears. Life is so full of ups and downs, unexpected surprises and heartbreaks, but when you believe in love, it is all SO worth it. She shared her life story with me over coffee as we both laughed and cried together. She told me that she chose July 4th as their wedding day because she wanted every anniversary to be a huge celebration, complete with fireworks! 

It was truly an honor to participate in this beautiful event! Mother Nature may have kept us off the beach, but nothing could keep these two from celebrating this beautiful union. Congrats Ana and Doug! I wish you many years together full of sweet blessings, great joy and abundant love.

"When I follow my heart it leads me to you."

Shelby and Jeramie had a year long engagement and planned on having a wedding to celebrate the start of their lives together. She was living in Florida and he was in Virginia, in between travelings for missions with the Marine Corps, When they realized he would be transferred across country, they decided to elope in Virginia and have a small family celebration before moving together to California. 

I chatted with Shelby on the phone a few times and we traded emails to plan a lovely outdoor ceremony and photo session on the day they tied the knot. Unfortunately, our well laid out plans were scrambled by some unexpected events and then some bad weather. They ended up having a small courthouse ceremony without any professional photos. I very much wanted to capture some gorgeous images for these two though, to commemorate their official union. Even though rain was in the forecast, I suggested that we meet at Regent University for a portrait session. I knew the campus would be green and lovely, and there would be some cover nearby in case of wet weather.

As it turned out, we did get wet. But it was a sweet, light rain that just added to the romantic atmosphere of the afternoon. Shelby and Jeramie love the way their portraits turned out, and so do I! 

These two gorgeous people were a joy to spend time with. I wish them many years of happiness together! Congrats Shelby and Jeramie!
