A Lens on Love Winners - Getting Ready Theme
Sheryl Fish, of Oobaloos Photography, Jen Fredette of Mountain Pearl Photography, and I have joined forces to create a place that celebrates wedding photographers. We created a space for members of our industry to learn, grow, support each other and build relationships. A Lens on Love is dedicated to all things wedding photography with some of the top wedding photographers from around the world participating in weekly themes. We also have amazing guest judges sharing inspiring work and selecting the top images for each theme.
We were honored to have the super talented and always lovely Rebecca, of Rebecca Keeling Studios, with us as guest judge for our {Getting Ready} theme.
Here's what Rebecca shared with us about her photography journey:
“I fell in love with photography the way you fall in love with your first born child, effortlessly and consumingly. From the moment I bought the most expensive camera I could afford in 2004, we were instant BFFs. Moving to England the following year stirred in me a creative need that I had never felt before. The beauty of the country, the architecture, the green green pastures, the smell of the earth, even the near-constant mist, all contributed to this life-altering experience. It made me see differently. It made me feel differently. There were days when I would put my son in his little backpack and just go walk. For hours. The location didn’t matter. Just him, me, and my little Nikon CoolPix camera. It was just a point and shoot. Nothing special. But it was where my love of photography began. It was the means through which I could take the incredible images I saw with my eyes and keep them with me forever. It was the cathartic tool that helped get me through many days of a painful divorce. It kept me grounded. And sane. Two years later I started my “official” business and now, ten years later, I look back every single day and can’t believe how far I’ve come. I have three sticky notes above my desk that read “honest”, “connected”, and “real” which are a constant mantra when I get behind my camera. I photograph relationships, not people, and I truly love it!”

Love the perspective, composition and bokeh. The editing also feels very natural stylistically with what seems to be the type of wedding it must have been…if that makes sense! Haha! Meaning, it looks like it was a bit rustic, vintage-y, outdoorsy and the editing style really goes with that feel. - Rebecca
I’m a HUGE fan of b/w images during the getting ready part of the day, especially when they are a little dark and moody like this one. It’s just drop dead gorgeous with the tones/highlights/shadows and the film feel is simply beautiful. - Rebecca
Everything about this image makes me want to jump into the photo and see what else is going on. I can almost feel the anticipation! Her hand on the window, the way she’s looking out into the field…it’s a very natural pose and seems to truly be a “moment” that was just captured as she waits to walk down the aisle. -Rebecca
